ABOUT

Esteban Martínez (Madrid, 1989)
is a multidisciplinary artist, teacher & researcher

I studied Fine Arts in Madrid and participated in two exchange programs in Bilbao and Hamburg, Germany. Then, I studied a MA in Education.

I currently work as a
Design Teacher focused on new technologies. I participate in various research projects on the topic of Design, Technology, Philosophy, Ethics, and Interfaces... And I try not to stop creating Art. The artistic projects I am working on now are mostly comics and scenography for Theatre. My interests have always been related to the mixture between experimental new languages and the notion of the structured classic artwork. Being honest, I never totally renounced to the Gesamtkunstwerk ("Total Work of Art") myth.

My beloved teacher
Belinda Gardner once wrote very nice words about my work,      I hope you forgive my vanity...

"Encompassing drawing, film, video, sound, and spatial installations, his pieces are connected by a profound, critical reflection upon issues that address the question of identity in today's societies, the many-layered spheres of the historical and the political in western culture, and the human condition per se. [...] His works shift between beauty and alienation, the latter being a leitmotif in Esteban's work both thematically and as a central aesthetic technique"
